Des has over 20 years’ experience in the industry within general construction where he has progressed from Trainee Site Manager through to Contracts Manager across a combination of highly reputable construction companies before joining Speller Metcalfe as Divisional Manager. He then progressed to Director of Construction Division in October 2014, stepping into the role of Managing Director in 2015.
Des has a history of high value, high quality projects delivered across a range of sectors with particular expertise in Design & Build. He is a confident and respected leader and his motivational management style provides for the fresh open book approach that our clients have come to expect from Speller Metcalfe.
Founder of the Company in 1995, Steve continues to play an active role in driving the strategic and progressive growth of the Speller Metcalfe Group and retains a hands-on approach to ensure that client focused delivery is achieved throughout all operational levels of the business.
He is passionate and proud of the Company’s track record for retaining and nurturing the development of valuable employees and supply chain partners, believing that the honest and family oriented principles which lie at the core of our business philosophy are key to its success.
From the very beginning of Speller Metcalfe, a special relationship of trust and complementary skills has existed between its founding directors.
Andy continues to manage a considered, analytical and strong commercial framework within which the Speller Metcalfe Group operates and continues to grow; his Design and Build experience and understanding have been crucial to the development of many projects. Andy is currently responsible for the development of our South West regional activities and is based at our Gloucester office.
Joining Speller Metcalfe as one of its very first Site Managers, Bill’s practical experience and exceptional specialised knowledge of the building process has enabled the successful completion of many difficult and prestigious contracts over the years, seeing him progress to Contracts Manager and now Director in charge of our Small Works division.
Our smaller projects are often more demanding in terms of technical issues, site constraints and programme and it is here that we most use our own trade resources. Our success relies upon true team co-operation and understanding people’s strengths, both of which are key attributes in Bill’s armoury.
Steve holds overall responsibility for the Group’s Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management functions. His remit is to ensure that our surveying staff act in a professional and courteous manner to protect the Company’s financial entitlement, while at all times maintaining the collaborative relationships held with clients and our supply chain alike.
Having previously trained with KPMG as an auditor, Mike joined the company as Accounts and Office Manager in 1999.
He now concentrates upon managing the Group’s finances, bringing a strong, disciplined and analytical approach to furnish the Directors with accurate, relevant and up-to-date information relating to budgets, financial reporting, cash control, capital expenditure and VAT.
Adrian oversees the Ecobuild division, giving guidance at a strategic level for our sustainable projects which have led to Speller Metcalfe's standing as an industry leader in the field.
Involved in conceptual design through to the detailed design process and construction phase of projects, his role is to ensure that all aspects of sustainable construction have been considered appropriately. He has helped drive Speller Metcalfe towards achieving the highest levels of sustainable performance including BIM Level 2 since 2012, the UK's first combined Passivhaus and CSH Level 6 project and England's first CSH Level 6 standalone project.
When joining the family business, James initially worked on site in a supervisory role to gain valuable, practical front-line experience within building and refurbishment.
James now heads up Speller Metcalfe’s Pre-Construction team; he has taken on board responsibility to develop the strategic profile, create new opportunities and relationships, develop and manage pre-qualification and tender quality bid submissions.
