PASSIVHAUS

By far, the greatest impact in reducing the carbon footprint of a building is to create an efficient building envelope - both in terms of airtightness and insulation.  At Speller Metcalfe we are experts in obtaining the stringent airtightness requirements of the Passivhaus model.

Passivhaus properties provide comfort to the occupants while utilising a very small amount of energy for heating and cooling due to:

  • Extremely high airtightness parameters and efficient building insulation.
  • Consideration of the effects of solar gain on the building temperature.
  • Use of mechanical ventilation systems that employ heat recovery technology.
