New Worcester base for Fortis Living

Fortis Living have contracted Midlands-based Speller Metcalfe to build a new headquarters for the housing association in Worcester.

The new office space will see Fortis Living’s services – which are currently in various locations throughout the county – operating from one location.

The new office is next door to Fortis Living’s current Worcester office, Progress House in Midland Road; once completed at the end of the year, the housing provider will operate from the two neighbouring sites.

The aim of the move is to reduce time and travel costs for employees who currently commute between offices in Worcester, Malvern and Droitwich as well as improving customer service, providing new amenities for staff and leaving room for future growth.

Guy Weston, Group Chief Executive at Fortis Living said : “We are delighted that work has begun on site; not only does it confirm our commitment to Worcester, it will also be beneficial to the local economy.

“Development of a new single office to replace six of our existing offices is a key part of our plan to refocus our operating area, reshape our services and refresh our ways of working.

“Moving into a modern building and rationalising our office network will enable us to make cost savings that we can reinvest into existing homes, services and communities and into building new affordable homes.

“Together with our existing Midland Road office Progress House, the proposed new development will deliver the space we need to position our entire team in the same area.  Our priority is giving our residents and customers a great service and this new office will give our staff an environment in which they can do exactly that.”

Des O’Neill, Group Managing Director at Speller Metcalfe said : “Fortis Living is a long standing client of ours and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with them once again on this exciting new project.  We have built many houses for Fortis Living over the years and are now looking forward to the challenge of building fantastic new office facilities for their staff.  Although we operate nationally, our Head Office is in Malvern so it is always a pleasure for us to work with local businesses on projects close to home.”

The new development will make use of a vacant brownfield site, situated at the back of the Lea & Perrins factory off Great Western Avenue, and was approved by Worcester City Council’s Planning Committee last year.  New areas of tree planting, cycle storage and electric charge points have all been incorporated into the design.

The multi million pound development will be a two story building with 15,000 sq ft floorspace, with more than 100 car parking spaces and accommodation for around 120 staff.  Importantly, the site – which is larger than Fortis Living’s requirements – will also offer new commercial opportunities for local businesses.  Made up of 15,000 sq ft of commercial space with plenty of parking, the units will be flexibly designed so internal walls can be repositioned to offer units of different sizes.

Fortis Living is working with Malvern-based contractor Speller Metcalfe on the project.

Fortis Living provides more than 15,000 homes throughout Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
