Western Power Distribution, Birmingham

  • Western Power Distribution, Birmingham

Speller Metcalfe has been appointed to undertake Western Power Distribution’s largest scheme to date, and the 12th scheme for our client as appointed contractor.

The new Birmingham depot is being built on a historic site which started life as a railway shunting yard in the 1700s; as a result, a high proportion of ground excavation and testing has formed part of the enabling works.

The new depot will be formed within an existing steel and concrete structure to create a three-storey depot and offices incorporating a call centre, design centre, storage, fuel store, mezzanine level, changing and welfare facilities and vehicle testing site, among others.

Although a traditional contract, Speller Metcalfe has been highly involved in various design elements including cladding, steel connection, concrete repair, insulation and full responsibility for M&E.
